IKEA Closing 2 D.C.-Area Showrooms: Report

IKEA will close its Fairfax Corner showroom on Nov. 30, months after opening a full-service store in nearby Chantilly.

FAIRFAX, VA — IKEA will close its Fairfax Corner plan-and-order showroom on Nov. 30, less than three years after the small-format location opened, the Washington Business Journal reported.

The 4,500-square-foot showroom at 4206 Fairfax Corner Ave. sits a few miles from Ikea’s new 107,000-square-foot Chantilly store, which opened in June at the former Dulles Expo Center.

Unlike full-service stores, plan-and-order locations allow customers to view products, place orders and receive design assistance but do not stock merchandise for same-day purchases.

IKEA will also close its Georgetown showroom at 3307 M St. NW on Oct. 18, according to the report. The company said the closures are part of a broader strategy emphasizing full-service stores, home delivery, pickup and online shopping.

Customers can continue visiting Ikea stores in Chantilly, Woodbridge and College Park, as well as a plan-and-order showroom in Gaithersburg.
