Toxic Substance Stored Above Food Prep Area At Fairfax Restaurant: Inspection Report

Health department inspectors found critical violations at five of the 10 Fairfax food establishments they visited in February.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Inspectors from the Fairfax County Health Department found critical violations at five of the 10 food establishments in the Fairfax City area they visited in February.

Based on the health department’s inspection records, the following establishments were cited for health code violations.

  • 99 Ranch Market, 10780 Fairfax Blvd. During a Feb. 11 inspection, the establishment received a violation for "Proper cooling methods used; adequate equipment for temperature control." The inspector found that several items in the deli display case were not being maintained at the required 41 degrees Fahrenheit or below. [View Report]
  • Artie’s, 3260 Old Lee Highway. An inspector visited Feb. 18 and cited the restaurant for "Food-contact surfaces: cleaned & sanitized." The report noted that the mechanical dishwasher was not dispensing the proper concentration of chlorine sanitizer during the final rinse cycle. [View Report]
  • Founding Farmers, 11715 Main St. A Feb. 9 inspection resulted in a violation for "Hands clean & properly washed." An employee was observed handling ready-to-eat bread with bare hands instead of using gloves or utensils. The issue was corrected on-site. [View Report]
  • Main Street Bagel, 10260 Main St. During a Feb. 3 inspection, the restaurant was cited for "Toxic substances properly identified, stored, and used." A bottle of glass cleaner was found stored on a shelf directly above a food preparation area. [View Report]
  • PJ Skidoos, 9908 Fairfax Blvd. An inspector visited Feb. 26 and recorded a violation for "Proper cold holding temperatures." Raw beef and chicken in the reach-in cooler were measured at temperatures above the safe 41-degree threshold. [View Report]

The following establishments in the Fairfax City area were also inspected during February but had no critical violations reported at the time of the visit: Bellissimo Restaurant (Feb. 5), Blenz Juice (Feb. 24), Courtyard by Marriott Bistro (Feb. 20), Mezeh Mediterranean Grill (Feb. 12), and The Wine House (Feb. 19).
