📰 News we're reading

• Falls Church leaders debate prioritizing buses on busy roads (arlnow.com) — Falls Church officials are weighing new bus-priority lanes on N. Washington and W. Broad streets, a change that could speed transit but slow car traffic and push drivers onto neighborhood roads. At the same time, Sherrow Avenue is closed for months at Tripps Run for a culvert replacement, with a detailed detour in place and one sidewalk remaining open.

• Alexandria's jobless rate drops, but so does the number of residents in workforce (alxnow.com) — Alexandria's unemployment rate has dipped to 3%, but like the rest of Northern Virginia, it's seeing fewer residents in the workforce overall. Nearby Arlington, Fairfax County, and Falls Church are also experiencing some of their lowest employment counts in years, even as jobless rates improve, highlighting a regional squeeze from federal cuts, high living costs, and post-pandemic shifts.

• PHCC Educational Foundation 2026 (mechanical-hub.com) — A Falls Church-based national plumbing and HVAC foundation has awarded a record 80 scholarships totaling up to $200,000 to apprentices, trade-school, and college students pursuing industry careers. Local contractors and major brands helped fund the awards, and next year's scholarship application window opens in January, giving Falls Church residents in the trades time to prepare.
