📰 News we're reading

1. Tysons apartment costs rise, other areas of county see drop in new data (ffxnow.com) — Herndon renters are seeing stable prices, with median September rents at $1,837 for one-bedroom units and $2,204 for two-bedrooms, essentially unchanged from last year. Countywide, Fairfax rents dipped slightly, while nearby Tysons was one of the few areas to see increases. Regional and national data suggest a cooling but still tight rental market overall.

2. Herndon town manager fired after less than a year on the job (ffxnow.com) — Herndon's town manager has been fired less than a year into the job, with the council citing only a confidential personnel matter and naming Deputy Town Manager Kirstyn Jovanovich as interim replacement. The shake-up comes as Herndon faces a pivotal election, downtown redevelopment uncertainty, and work on a new comprehensive plan guiding growth around the Metro station through 2050.

3. Fairfax Connector rolls out Spooky buses (annandaletoday.com) — Fairfax Connector's Halloween-themed Spooky Buses will be running routes from facilities including Herndon and making special appearances around the county this month. Herndon families can catch one up close at Big Truck Night at Frying Pan Farm Park on Oct. 16, where the festively wrapped buses will join other large vehicles for kids to explore.

4. Kyuramen moves into co-branding with three concepts under one roof (nrn.com) — Herndon diners already familiar with Super Kyuramen's immersive Japanese menu may soon see the brand gain more national attention as its parent company launches a new multi-brand, fast-casual concept in New York. The group is combining ramen, dumplings, and matcha desserts under one roof, potentially shaping future expansions and offerings that could influence what eventually appears in Herndon.

5. Reston resident completes 1,000-mile bicycle ride for charity (ffxnow.com) — A Reston cyclist finished a 1,000-mile charity ride at his company's Herndon headquarters, raising tens of thousands of dollars for solar lighting in communities without electricity. The effort, supported by Herndon-based ePlus and other sponsors, highlighted how simple solar lamps can help families redirect money from kerosene toward income-generating investments and a better quality of life.
