• Benkahla named Martinsville city attorney (henrycountyenterprise.com) — Martinsville City Council has unanimously appointed veteran local-government lawyer James Benkahla as the new city attorney, effective Sept. 1, to serve as the city’s chief legal adviser. He’ll handle everything from contracts and ordinances to economic development, litigation, and policy work, earning $155,000 plus travel and standard city employee benefits.
   

• Local band JUND releases first music video (henrycountyenterprise.com) — A heavy metal band with roots in Henry and Patrick counties has released its first music video, “Verdant Catacombs,” while continuing to support Martinsville-area causes. JUND has raised money for the Martinsville-Henry County Harm Reduction Coalition, Rocky Mount’s no-kill shelter, and Grace Network, and will play Halloween-season shows at Scuffle Hill and New Moon Tattoo.
   

• Martinsville student wins statewide STEAM-H essay contest (henrycountyenterprise.com) — A Martinsville High School student, Kamori Dillard, has been named a regional winner in the Virginia Council on Women’s statewide STEAM-H essay contest, earning scholarship support for future studies. She was honored alongside other young women from across Virginia at the Executive Mansion by Gov. Abigail Spanberger and First Gentleman Adam Spanberger.
