📰 News we're reading
1. Classic Eatery In New Hands + Fastest-Growing Companies + Trump Cost Increases: VA Business News (patch.com) — Northern Virginia business news ranges from a new steward at L'Auberge Chez François to fast-growing local companies and concerns over rising costs and a major utility merger. McLean residents are highlighted with a September lineup at the McLean Community Center, featuring films, a block party and a fall festival. The roundup also touches on airport developments, college rankings, and several crime and land-use updates across the region.

2. Mobile chillers enter McLean (thehighlandernews.com) — McLean High School students and staff are coping with sweltering classrooms, prompting Fairfax County Public Schools to bring in a temporary mobile chiller truck for part of the building. Many rooms, especially in the science hallway, remain uncomfortably hot, so the PTSA has launched a Facilities Committee to document problems and push for long-term renovations that finally put McLean on the county's priority list.

3. E-bikes can hit 50 mph. Officials say they don't belong on the W&OD Trail (wtop.com) — If you walk, run, or ride the W&OD Trail near McLean, local police and NOVA Parks are stepping up outreach about which e-bikes are allowed and how fast is too fast. Officers recently handed out safety gear and guidance, stressing that only lower-powered Class 1 and 2 e-bikes belong on the trail and urging residents to report dangerous riding.

4. Public Safety - Week of September 4, 2026 (fairfaxtimes.com) — Fairfax County police have charged a daycare worker after two 2-year-old boys were allegedly assaulted at Faz Creative Education Learning Center on Old Meadow Road in McLean, an incident local parents will want to know about. The broader public-safety roundup also covers vandalism in Lorton, a Lincolnia burglary, a construction rescue, a classified-leaks guilty plea, a major drug seizure at Dulles, Virginia's new digital IDs in Apple Wallet, and VDOT's Labor Day travel guidance.
