Alexandria Experiencing Summer Crime Spike: Report
The city is in the midst of an uptick in violence, though crime overall is down, according to a new report.
ALEXANDRIA, VA – Alexandria has seen a notable increase in violent crime this summer, the city’s police chief says, according to a new report.
ALX Now reports that Alexandria Police Chief Tarrick McGuire says there’s been a “significant spike” in crimes like felonious assaults, though none of the separate crimes have been connected.
There have been two homicides in the city so far this year. In one, a domestic violence incident, the accused murderer was himself killed by police. The city’s crime database shows 91 aggravated assaults, 56 burglaries, five rapes, three other forcible sexual offenses, among major crimes. According to McGuire, crime is down by 13 percent overall year on year.
