The council will decide on a number of new city fees.
ALEXANDRIA, VA – Alexandria’s City Council will decide tonight on the city’s final budget for the next fiscal year. They will also vote on a number of proposals to raise fees for some city services or facilities, including museum tours, document reprints, special park uses and parking meters.
The meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. The final agenda can be accessed here. More information on how to follow the meeting can be found below.
Group visiting fees will be raised or imposed for the Alexandria Black History Museum, the Fort Ward Museum, the Friendship Firehouse Museum, the Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum, the Freedom House Museum and Gadsby's Tavern Museum under the current proposal.

Docking fees, park rental fees, city summer day program fees and youth sports fees are also all due to increase if the current proposal is approved.
Fees for parking for all on-street meters will rise from $1.75 per hour to $2.75 per hour, as will hourly parking fees for residential pay by phone blocks, unless the rates are already governed by a different agreement. Established all-day meter rates will not change.

Alexandrians rejected a prior proposal to start charging for parking on Sunday, the Alexandria Times and others reported earlier this month. The current fee increase aims to make up for that shortfall.
