2. Mobile eye clinic inside Richmond schools helps Virginia students see clearly (wtvr.com) — Richmond Public Schools students are getting free eye exams and glasses right inside their schools thanks to a mobile clinic run by Chesterfield-based nonprofit Conexus. The program, which has already served thousands of RPS kids, helps families who struggle with transportation, time off work, or insurance, and is on track to hit a major milestone of 40,000 exams statewide this year.
   

3. 19-year-old charged with murder in South Richmond shooting (wtvr.com) — Richmond police have charged a 19-year-old from Chesterfield with murder and a firearm offense in connection with an early-August shooting on Southwood Parkway in South Richmond that left a 34-year-old Richmond man dead. Detectives, working with the U.S. Marshals' fugitive task force, are still asking anyone with information about the homicide to contact Major Crimes or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
   

4. VUU apartment permit goes before Richmond Planning Commission (nbc12.com) — A proposed Virginia Union University-linked apartment complex at the historic former Richmond Community Hospital site on Overbrook Road is now before the Richmond Planning Commission. Neighbors and preservation advocates worry about traffic, parking, and protecting the nearly 100-year-old building's role in Richmond's Black history, and want demolition protections written directly into the special use permit before City Council votes in September.
   

5. Virginia sees record train ridership as passenger rail expands (wavy.com) — Train travel to and from Richmond is booming, with state-supported Amtrak routes through Staples Mill and Main Street stations helping Virginia hit record ridership. Expanded service, renovated stations, and future lines to North Carolina and Charlottesville could soon give Richmonders more frequent, convenient rail options across the region.
