• This Rugged 7-Mile Virginia Trail Winds Into an Ancient Old-Growth Forest with Trees Up to 400 Years Old (myfamilytravels.com) — If you’re up for a challenging hike, Ramseys Draft Wilderness is only about a 30–40 minute drive west from Staunton along U.S. 250. This rugged seven-mile trail near West Augusta leads you through stream crossings, steep climbs, and some of Virginia’s last old-growth forest, with hemlocks and hardwoods up to 400 years old, abundant wildlife, and big Allegheny Mountain views from Hardscrabble Knob.
