'Thank Goodness The Commanders Won': Metro Riders Say They Were Trapped In Vienna Station
A Metro rider said a delayed post-game ride home left him and fellow travelers stuck behind locked doors at the Vienna Station.
VIENNA, VA – Washington Commanders fans returning from the game Sunday night found themselves locked in when they arrived at the Vienna Metro Station at nearly 2 a.m. Monday.
A Twitter user using the handle DMV Adventures posted a video of himself and fellow travelers milling around inside the station behind chained-closed outer doors. Riders were presumably traveling from the Morgan Boulevard Metro Station nearest to the Commanders’ Landover, MD, stadium.
“It took so long for the train to get home that by the time it arrived at the final station, there were no employees there and all the doors were locked. So tons of people were just trapped,” the man wrote.

“It normally takes like an hour to get home on the metro but today it took two hours.”
Metro responded to the post, apologizing for the inconvenience. The transit service said the station manager at the Vienna station “locked the outside gate in an effort to prevent customers from entering while they performed a final station check for the night.” According to Metro, the last Orange Line train entered the station at 1:39 a.m. and video shows riders from that train exiting the mezzanine area around 1:43 a.m. The station manager followed the customers, letting them out within 10 minutes, Metro says.

“Thank goodness the commanders won lol … I may never Metro again lol,” he wrote.
