Woodbridge Man Arrested After Police Pursuit, Drugs And Guns Seized: Sheriff's Office

WOODBRIDGE, VA – A Woodbridge man was arrested on Saturday after twice fleeing from Spotsylvania County deputies, the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday.

According to the sheriff’s office, the first of the two pursuits on Saturday occurred when deputies attempted to stop a white Dodge Challenger on Piedmont Drive. They had to give up that pursuit due to traffic conditions.

The Charger was seen again on Brock Road near Catharpin Road, and the driver again fled when deputies attempted to stop him. Deputies deployed spike strips and were able to deflate the Charger’s tires, the sheriff's office reported. At the intersection of Brock Road and Gordon Road, the Charger finally crashed into another cruiser and stopped.

A tense standoff immediately ensued, deputies said, as they spotted a firearm on the Charger’s dashboard, within reach of the driver. After negotiating with the driver, he ultimately surrendered.

Deputies say they found two firearms and narcotics inside the vehicle.

Terrell Downing, 38, of Woodbridge, was arrested and charged with two counts of felony eluding, two counts of possession of schedule I/II narcotics, possession of a firearm by a nonviolent felon, possession of ammunition by a nonviolent felon, possession of a firearm while in possession of schedule I/II narcotics, felony obstruction of justice, misdemeanor obstruction of justice, possession of schedule III narcotics and two counts of driving without a license.

Downing was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he was held without bond. His first hearing is scheduled for Monday.

Deputies didn't say why they first attempted to stop the white Charger.
