• City adopts tax incentive program to encourage affordable housing (gigharbornow.org) — Gig Harbor's City Council has approved a 12-year multifamily tax exemption program aimed at spurring more affordable rental housing, requiring 20% of units in participating projects to be income-restricted. The move helps the city meet state housing mandates and local demand, but leaders haven't yet decided how to protect tenants once those 12-year affordability commitments expire.
   

• Big changes coming to section of Pierce Co. highway prone to speeding, backups (thenewstribune.com) — Drivers heading between Gig Harbor and the Key Peninsula will soon see the right southbound lane of SR 302 near the SR 16 interchange permanently closed, with a new buffered path for walkers and cyclists and a lower 45 mph speed limit. WSDOT says the low-cost changes should curb speeding and crashes by the Purdy Bridge without worsening already heavy backups at nearby intersections.
