Here's what happened (thenewstribune.com) — Crews have finished removing the aging Jerkovich Pier on Gig Harbor's waterfront, clearing the way for construction of the city's new commercial fishing homeport at Ancich Waterfront Park. The fully funded $4.9 million project will add moorage for 17 commercial vessels, new floats, utilities, and stormwater upgrades, with in-water work expected this winter and opening anticipated next spring. 
• Pierce Co. cidery once spanning 17 locations hands off last taproom to new owner (thenewstribune.com) — Locust Cider's owners have handed off their last remaining taproom, located in Gig Harbor, to the owner of Joysticks, who will rebrand it as The Harbor Hideout while keeping staff and Locust Cider on tap. The new owner plans to gradually add gluten-free food, arcade upgrades, and more games, aiming to turn the space into a community-focused hangout and event spot for local families.
• High school football roundup: Sumner outlasts Emerald Ridge, remains perfect (thenewstribune.com) — Peninsula High followed its big Fish Bowl win over crosstown rival Gig Harbor by upsetting previously undefeated Timberline, 31-14, behind three touchdown passes from quarterback Talen McDonnell. The roundup also recaps several other South Sound Week 4 football games, but the Peninsula result stands out for local fans tracking how the Seahawks build on their rivalry victory.
