Ascend in Capital City marks one-year anniversary, receives $500K donation for continued growth (wchsnetwork.com) — Charleston's Ascend program just marked its first year by celebrating more than 100 new families moving to the city and a major $500,000 donation to fuel further growth. Local leaders say the remote-worker initiative is boosting Kanawha County with new neighbors, shoppers, and homebuyers, and retention rates above 96% suggest many newcomers are choosing to stay in Charleston long term. 
2. Pulitzer Prize-winning historian commemorates America's 250th in Charleston on October 15 (therealwv.com) — Charleston residents can hear Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Rick Atkinson speak on America's 250th at the Capitol Theater on October 15, with free admission and a book signing. The evening pairs with the downtown ArtWalk and a special American Revolution exhibit at the Kanawha County Public Library, all within easy reach for a full night of local culture and history.
3. 'Roar & Explore with Dinosaurs' traveling exhibit coming to West Virginia (wvnstv.com) — Families in Charleston can soon explore life-sized animatronic dinosaurs when the Clay Center's new traveling exhibit space debuts "Roar & Explore with Dinosaurs" from September 26, 2026, through January 3, 2027. Members get early access on September 25 with special activities and treats, and all visitors can enjoy hands-on features like a fossil dig pit and erupting volcano.
4. WV Dept. of Ed. to Welcome Student Support Professionals to Charleston - West Virginia Daily News (wvdn.com) — Student support professionals from across West Virginia will gather at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center on Sept. 24 for a full-day conference focused on counseling, behavior supports, mental health, and family engagement. If you work in or with local schools, this event offers targeted breakout sessions on data-informed strategies, homelessness supports, prevention education, and key WVDE initiatives that directly affect students in Charleston and statewide.
5. Ella Langley Brings Young Fan Onstage During Charleston Concert (wuuqradio.com) — A young fan from nearby Gallia County got the moment of a lifetime when country singer Ella Langley invited her onstage during a stop on the Dandelion Tour at Charleston Coliseum. The girl, wearing her Little Miss Gallia County sash, sang along to "Loving Life Again" as the Charleston crowd cheered on the impromptu duet.
