• Worthless check case settled with plea agreement (theintermountain.com) — A man from Elkins has pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts related to writing worthless checks totaling nearly $8,000, after initially facing felony charges. He received a short jail sentence with credit for time served and has repaid both victims in full, according to Randolph County authorities.
   

• Suspect allegedly shot woman in the face (theintermountain.com) — Elkins Police officers joined state troopers and Randolph County deputies responding to a reported shooting on Turkey Bone Road near Pickens, where a woman was allegedly shot in the face during a campsite altercation. A Barbour County woman is now jailed on an attempted murder charge as investigators piece together differing witness accounts of what led to the gunfire.
   

• Elkins native Whetsell awarded Boren Scholarship (theintermountain.com) — An Elkins native, West Virginia University student Izaak Whetsell, has earned a prestigious Boren Scholarship and will study Russian in Kyrgyzstan to support his dream of building spacecraft for NASA.
