Parkersburg City Council passes recycling amendment (newsandsentinel.com) — Parkersburg residents will now see a mandatory $3 monthly recycling charge after City Council approved an ordinance to comply with a court ruling on curbside recycling. The change follows a legal challenge to the city's earlier opt-in system and comes alongside financing for a major water filtration project and steps tied to a $150 million hospital expansion.
   

2. Back-to-back state champs being honored at PHS (mariettatimes.com) — Parkersburg fans can celebrate tonight as Parkersburg High honors its 2006–07 back-to-back state champion Big Reds before the 7:30 p.m. home game against Hurricane at Stadium Field. Former coach Bernie Buttrey and many local former players are expected to return for the 20-year reunion of their remarkable 27–1 run.
   

3. On the Record: West Virginia mom remembers daughter killed in 9/11 attacks (wowktv.com) — A Parkersburg mother is remembering her daughter, Mary Lou Hauge, a Parkersburg High School valedictorian who died in the World Trade Center attacks after calling home here on 9/11. As the nation marks 25 years since that day, she reflects on her daughter's accomplished but short life and the ways she keeps her memory alive.
   

4. Houston City College selected for 'National Workforce Futures Accelerator' (katytimes.com) — West Virginia University Parkersburg in Parkersburg has been named among 15 community colleges nationwide in a new Workforce Futures Accelerator backed by ACCT and Google.org. The three-year effort will expand virtual, employer-connected projects in coursework, helping local students build real-world skills and professional connections for in-demand careers.
   

5. Wood County faces $280,000 bill for warehouse fire pumps (wtap.com) — Wood County officials, meeting in Parkersburg, are grappling with a $280,000 bill for emergency river pumps used to fight the Peoples Cartage warehouse fire, which the county may have to pay before seeking reimbursement. Commissioners also heard that the assessor's office has significantly cut its budget and recognized a statewide crisis intervention summit recently held in Parkersburg.
