• Wisconsin's 48 tornadoes already make 2026 the second-biggest year on record (madison.com) — Wisconsin has already seen 48 tornadoes in 2026, including an EF-3 that tore through the Appleton and Menasha area on July 27, making this the state's second-busiest tornado year on record. Meteorologists warn residents to stay alert, since severe storms and even tornadoes can still form into December despite the usual season ending in August. 
• Close to a fifth of the world's sequoias burned. One solution? More fire. (cnn.com) — A recent EF2 tornado in the Appleton area toppled power lines and trees and damaged homes in parts of Appleton, Menasha and Neenah, underscoring local severe weather risks.
