Wisconsin History Center on the Capitol Square in Madison Wisconsin (September 2026 construction site visit) (blogspot.com) — A major new Wisconsin History Center is rising on Madison's Capitol Square, across from the State Capitol and visible from Madison Central Library. Scheduled to open in 2027, the five-story facility will more than double prior exhibit space and host extensive school and public programming, aiming to become a high-tech cultural hub for residents and visitors.
   

2. KIDS Day at the Truax Gallery! (pbswisconsin.org) — Families in Madison can enjoy a free KIDS Day at Madison College's Truax Gallery on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to noon at 1701 Wright Street. Kids can meet Rosie from "Rosie's Rules," explore the Las Curanderas exhibition featuring Wisconsin-based Latina artists, watch art-themed PBS Wisconsin episodes, and enjoy light refreshments in a community-focused, family-friendly setting.
   

3. This Wisconsin College City Stands Out As One Of The Most Livable In The Midwest (takingthekids.com) — Madison's lakes, trails, and parks shape daily life here, from bike-friendly streets and public beaches to the beloved Memorial Union Terrace on Lake Mendota. This feature walks you through State Street, the Capitol Square farmers market, UW–Madison's campus, Monona Terrace, neighborhood hotspots like Willy Street and Monroe Street, and year-round arts events that make the city one of the Midwest's most livable places.
   

4. UW-Madison relies on big donors to help pay for major projects (captimes.com) — UW–Madison is increasingly turning to major private donors to fund big campus projects, including new academic buildings and a proposed $393 million residence hall that would add up to 2,000 beds. With state support now only about 13% of the university's budget, donations, grants, and tuition are filling the gap, shaping future housing, engineering, and public affairs facilities that Madison students and staff will use daily.
   

5. Wisconsin fire departments see funding boost through 2% fire dues program (spectrumnews1.com) — Madison's Fire Department is receiving more than $2 million this year from Wisconsin's 2% Fire Dues Program, helping cover fire prevention, education, and inspection costs across nearly 13,000 local buildings. The statewide program, which saw a 6% funding increase, distributes over $38 million to more than 800 departments, offering a boost as many communities face tight public safety budgets.
