As Patch previously reported, Michelin North America announced last week that its decision to permanently shutter its longtime BFGoodrich tire plant in Tuscaloosa was due to it operating "well below" capacity.

The closure will ultimately impact around 1,200 jobs when operations eventually cease in 2028.
Alabama ONE, originally chartered in 1951 to serve BFGoodrich employees and their families, described the announcement as both an economic setback for West Alabama and a deeply personal moment for the financial institution.

"This news is especially significant to us because of where we come from," Alabama ONE Chief Executive Officer Whitney Oswalt said in a statement Tuesday. "BFGoodrich employees are not just part of our history — they are part of our present. Many of our members, and even members of our team, are directly affected by this closure. We are committed to supporting them during this difficult time."
Alabama ONE said it recognizes the financial uncertainty many families may face, so it is mobilizing financial resources and support programs designed to help affected employees navigate the transition.
"We want every impacted employee and family to know that they are not alone," Oswalt said. "Our mission has always been to improve the financial lives of our members, and in times like this, that mission matters more than ever. We are here to listen and to help our community every step of the way."
The credit union said assistance will be available to affected workers regardless of whether they are current Alabama ONE members. Alabama ONE also encouraged employees to visit a local branch or its website to learn about available resources.
