FBI Joins Tuscaloosa Mass Shooting Investigation As Eighth Victim Comes Forward

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The number of people injured in a mass shooting Saturday night in west Tuscaloosa has increased to eight, while the FBI is now assisting local investigators and asking the public to submit photos and video from the scene.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department announced Sunday evening that an eighth victim had been identified after that person arrived at a hospital Sunday afternoon for treatment of a gunshot graze wound.

As Patch previously reported, seven victims, including juveniles, were initially identified following the shooting in the 2600 block of 22nd Street.

Three initially suffered serious injuries, though police said Sunday morning that all seven were in stable condition.

Tuscaloosa Police officers were initially dispatched to the area at approximately 10:48 p.m. Saturday after receiving reports that multiple people had been shot.

The shooting occurred near an outdoor neighborhood block party that had been permitted by the City of Tuscaloosa until 10 p.m., according to information previously provided by the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit.

Several unoccupied vehicles were also struck by gunfire.

In the latest development, police said the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is receiving assistance from FBI's Birmingham office as investigators continue working to determine who was responsible for the shooting.

Investigators are specifically asking anyone who attended the block party or was in the surrounding area Saturday night to provide photographs, cellphone video, surveillance footage or other information that could help with the investigation.

The FBI has established a digital media tip line allowing members of the public to submit information, photos and videos directly to investigators.

The FBI's submission portal allows users to provide information and upload digital files directly to investigators.

No arrests have been announced and authorities have not released information regarding a possible suspect or what investigators believe led to the shooting.

The investigation remains ongoing and police said additional information will be released when available.
