Pickens County Deputy Charged With Voyeurism, Stalking

TUSCALOOSA, AL — A Pickens County sheriff's deputy has been arrested and relieved of his duties following an investigation into allegations of misconduct.

The Pickens County Sheriff's Office said it became aware Sept. 11 of allegations of possible misconduct involving one of its employees.

Pickens County Sheriff Jordan Powell said he consulted with the district attorney's office and requested an independent investigation by the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation.

The investigation resulted in the arrest of James Long Reed, 47, on Wednesday afternoon, according to the sheriff's office.

Pickens County Jail records show Reed is charged with first-degree voyeurism and two counts of felony electronic stalking.

His bond has not been set at this time and he remains behind bars.

Powell said Reed had served as a deputy with the agency and was relieved of his duties following his arrest.

He then referred questions about the investigation and arrest to the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation.

"As law enforcement officers, we are held to a higher standard of conduct and accountability," Powell said. "When an officer fails to meet those standards and violates the law, they should be held accountable just as any other person who commits a crime."
