Two people are dead following a house fire Friday night in Holt.

Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue Public Information Officer Holly Whigham told Patch that crews were dispatched shortly after 9:30 p.m. to a reported residential structure fire in the area of 40th Avenue.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire and smoke coming from the home.
She said crews quickly launched an interior attack while simultaneously searching the residence.

During the search, Whigham said firefighters located two victims inside the home.
"Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue extends its heartfelt condolences to the victims' family and loved ones during this difficult time," Whigham said in a statement.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit and Tuscaloosa Fire Marshall were also called in to assume the investigation.
Captain Marty Sellers told Patch the fire appeared to have started in the kitchen but declined to provide further details at this point in the investigation.
Authorities have not released the identities of the two individuals found in the fire.
