• 'Golfing for Kids' fundraiser supports kids in foster care; annual tournament returns Oct. 5 (rivervalleydemocratgazette.com) — Fort Smith golfers can support children in foster care at the sixth annual Golfing for Kids tournament on Oct. 5 at Hardscrabble Country Club. The event benefits Family Ministries Foster Care, which helps foster families across Arkansas with licensing, case management, and 24/7 support, and last year's tournament raised more than $110,000 for kids' needs.
   

• Fort Smith police respond to domestic situation on South 18th Street (5newsonline.com) — Police responded Saturday night to a domestic situation in the 3900 block of South 18th Street in Fort Smith, near Calvary Assembly of God, and maintained a significant presence in the area. Officers initially asked residents to avoid the immediate neighborhood, and as of Sunday morning, authorities had not yet clarified whether the incident was ongoing or if the public should still steer clear.
   

• UAFS moves closer to offering respiratory therapy program; 1st cohort for associate degree expected in 2027 (rivervalleydemocratgazette.com) — The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith is moving ahead with an associate degree in respiratory therapy, aiming to enroll its first 12-student cohort in fall 2027, pending final approvals. Local health partners say the River Valley faces a serious therapist shortage, and UAFS leaders hope the new program will train well-paid professionals who can stay in the area and ease pressure on hospitals.
