1. Chico's Depot Park reopens under new management after years of vandalism (actionnewsnow.com) — Depot Park near Chico's train station has reopened under Chico Area Recreation and Park District management, ending more than a year behind security fencing. New rules ban overnight camping, and CARD is adding regular maintenance plus daily and evening security patrols after extensive vandalism, graffiti, and problems tied to past encampments drove neighbors away.
   

2. Chico Unified mints AI & tech advisory committee (chicosol.org) — Chico Unified's school board has unanimously approved creating a new artificial intelligence and technology advisory group to guide how digital tools are used in local classrooms. The committee of teachers, parents, students, administrators, and IT staff will host public forums and recommend policies, responding to community concerns about surveillance cameras and rapidly evolving AI in Chico schools.
   

3. Chico hit-and-run leaves worker seriously hurt near Enloe Health (actionnewsnow.com) — A Chico maintenance worker was seriously injured in a hit-and-run while crossing West Fifth Street near Enloe Medical Center, and the driver of a white Ford F-150 still hasn't been found. Chico Police suspended the investigation pending new leads, though the department has a photo of the truck; anyone with information is urged to contact Chico Police.
   

4. B-Line Bus Line makes beeline to Token Transit (theorion.com) — Chico State riders using B-Line buses now need the Token Transit app or a QR-based SmartCard instead of swiping a Wildcat ID, though rides remain free for students and staff. The change affects Chico, Oroville, and Paradise routes, with SmartCards available through ITSS or for purchase, while some students and AS leaders raise concerns about confusion and phone access.
   

5. Chico sex offender serving life sentences granted parole (actionnewsnow.com) — A convicted sex offender whose violent attacks on women in Chico led to three life sentences plus 51 years has been granted parole and is now living in Sacramento County. Authorities there are demanding an explanation from the state parole board about how he became eligible for release despite his original eligibility date being decades away.
