📰 News we're reading

• Legal Notices, September 11, 2026 (thecoastnews.com) — Del Mar's Design Review Board will hold a public hearing September 23 at Town Hall on a proposed remodel of a two‑story home at 535 Serpentine Drive, including new elevator, grading, and retaining walls. Residents can speak for up to three minutes or submit written comments by noon that day, while numerous nearby Oceanside, Encinitas, Carlsbad, and San Marcos legal notices may also interest North County readers.

• Travel + Leisure's Top-Ranked U.S. Destination for 2026 Declares Beach Safety Emergency: 'So Sad to See' (parade.com) — Carlsbad has declared a local emergency through September 15 to quickly stabilize an eroding coastal bluff along South Carlsbad Boulevard, after recent wave damage and sand loss forced closures at Tamarack State Beach. While Carlsbad remains open, beachgoers are urged to watch for warnings and may instead consider nearby Oceanside, Encinitas, or Del Mar, which are not under the emergency order and currently offer more typical late‑summer conditions.
