CAL FIRE Plans Burn In Sonoma County Today

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Several acres of forest brush will be burning today, and residents and visitors may see or smell smoke near the Sonoma County coast.

The CAL FIRE planned burn at the Jenner Headlands is expected to begin about 9 a.m. on a ridgeline north of the Russian River near Duncan Mills.

Four CAL FIRE engines will be on site, and fire resources may remain in the area into the evening.

Trained wildland firefighters will monitor the weather, smoke, fire behavior, and control lines throughout the operation.

CAL FIRE says the burn aims to reduce hazardous vegetation and improve forest health, but crews may postpone or cancel it if conditions fail to meet safety, weather, or smoke management requirements.

CAL FIRE asks people not to call 911 about smoke from the planned burn. People should still report smoke or fire that appears unrelated to the operation or poses an immediate threat to life or property.
