📰 News we're reading

1. Waymo Gets the Green Light for Tri-Valley Robotaxis. The Cars Aren't Here Yet. Open Governance (opgov.news) — Livermore is now officially on Waymo's map, with state regulators approving paid driverless rides in the city and the wider Tri-Valley, though no launch date is set. The article explains what robotaxis could mean for local trips to BART, nightlife, and seniors, while also outlining recent safety investigations and unanswered questions about routes, airport access, and timing.

2. Wahab holds slim lead in Congressional District 14 special election (livermorevine.com) — Livermore voters are in a closely watched special election where Aisha Wahab holds a slim early lead over Melissa Hernandez to briefly fill the Congressional District 14 seat. The district includes Livermore and nearby cities, and the two Democrats will meet again in November for a full term, making these results an important preview for local representation.

3. More Than One-Third of Alameda County Races Are Unchallenged City of Livermore (opgov.news) — Livermore voters face an election where the mayor's race and one City Council seat are going uncontested, limiting real choice on key local decisions. A rare contested council race in District 2 emerged after a civic workshop, while similar unchallenged contests across Alameda County highlight how few residents step up to run for influential local offices.

4. Jerrod Chapman-Marshall killed in solo crash near Barnett Segal Road (newsline.com) — A 19-year-old Livermore resident, Jerrod Tyson Chapman-Marshall, died after a BMW convertible crashed into a tree Sunday afternoon in Monterey, injuring three others. Police say the Dublin driver showed a blood alcohol level above the legal limit and faces a gross vehicular manslaughter charge, while investigators also probe earlier reckless driving reports.

5. Wahab has narrow lead in race to replace Eric Swalwell in Congress (sfchronicle.com) — Livermore residents are part of a tight special election where State Sen. Aisha Wahab holds a narrow lead over Melissa Hernandez to finish Eric Swalwell's term in a district that includes Livermore. Massive outside spending from pro-Israel group AIPAC has reshaped the race, even though Middle East policy isn't a top local concern, and both candidates will face off again in November.
