Car Fire Sparks Brush Fire Along 2 Freeway In Eagle Rock

LOS ANGELES, CA — Firefighters stopped a brush fire that burned about a half-acre alongside the northbound 2 Freeway in Eagle Rock Tuesday evening, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire was reported at about 8:42 p.m. after an auto fire ignited vegetation on a mid-slope area near the freeway, fire officials said.

LAFD initially positioned engines for structure defense and requested assistance from the Glendale Fire Department. Glendale's brush response was later canceled after crews reported no wind in the area and said the bulk of the fire had been knocked down.

Firefighters protecting nearby structures reported between 100 and 200 feet of defensible space, according to the LAFD.

Forward progress of the fire was ultimately stopped, and no structures were threatened or damaged. Crews remained at the scene to check for hot spots.

The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert affecting all northbound lanes of the freeway before reopening them at about 10:55 p.m., according to the CHP.

No injuries were reported.
