Tractor-Trailer Hauling 43,000 Pounds Of Cheese Overturns In Lancaster Crash

LANCASTER, CA — A tractor-trailer hauling 43,000 pounds of cheese overturned after colliding with a minivan Tuesday night in Lancaster, knocking down a power pole and spilling diesel onto the roadway, authorities said.

The crash occurred at about 10:32 p.m. near Avenue E and 90th Street East, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The tractor-trailer and minivan both went off the roadway after the collision, according to video from the scene. The truck overturned, and a door appeared to have been torn from the minivan.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, and an ambulance was dispatched, the CHP said. Details about injuries were not immediately available from the agency.

AV Scanner News reported that one person was initially trapped inside the van and that three ambulances were requested. The outlet reported that those involved suffered minor to moderate injuries.

AV Scanner News also reported that the female driver of the van was taken to Antelope Valley Medical Center and later taken into custody on suspicion of DUI.

A SigAlert was issued for Avenue E East between 90th Street and 120th Street because of a diesel and oil spill from the overturned tractor-trailer. The alert was expected to remain in effect through 8:55 a.m. Wednesday.

Heavy-duty towing equipment was requested to remove the truck and its 40-foot trailer, AV Scanner News reported. Southern California Edison and Los Angeles County road crews were also notified after the crash damaged an electricity pole.
