After Fatal I-215 Crash That Killed Her Teen Passenger, Woman Booked Into County Jail
The 29-year-old driver was booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
RIVERSIDE, CA — After a 15-year-old BMW passenger was killed and three others injured in a weekend crash on Interstate 215, the woman driving the vehicle has been arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
Evelyn Odalma Guzman Munguia, 29, of Perris, was booked early Tuesday into Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside following a brief hospitalization due to crash injuries.
The fatal collision occurred around 3:35 a.m. Sunday on southbound I-215, north of Cactus Avenue, in Riverside.
A preliminary investigation showed that a 2008 BMW X5 was traveling southbound on the freeway at a high rate of speed when it struck the rear of a 2023 GMC Sierra towing a trailer carrying an all-terrain vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The impact caused both the BMW and the all-terrain vehicle to overturn on the freeway. The BMW continued out of control, crossing over into the middle lane of northbound I-215.
A 15-year-old passenger in the BMW suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. The victim's identity was not immediately released.
Guzman Munguia and two other passengers in the BMW were transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. The GMC driver was not injured.
