Man Told Police He Attacked Woman Outside East Bay Restaurant Because Of Her Race: Report
The attack happened on Wednesday, according to a report by KTVU.
SAN LEANDRO, CA — A man accused of robbing and assaulting a San Leandro woman outside an East Bay restaurant told police he did so because she was Asian, according to a report from KTVU.
Jerty Jetani Finley, 22, has been charged with robbery, along with a hate crime enhancement in connection with the attack on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office.
Prosecutors say Finley attacked the woman in the parking lot of a Hayward restaurant due to her race.

When officers arrived, the woman had several cuts to her right arm and was visibly shaken, prosecutors said.
"I screamed. I said, ‘Stop … stop!’," the woman told KTVU in an interview. "And then he said, ‘Give me that b— or else I’ll kill you.’"

Police later arrested the man, who told them that he targeted the woman because she is Asian, according to KTVU.
"The violent targeting of individuals based on race or ethnicity is reprehensible," District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson said in a statement last week, adding that these incidents "will not be tolerated in Alameda County."
