📰 News we're reading

• Sonoma Council Taps New City Manager (patch.com) — Sonoma residents are poised to see interim city manager Cristine Alilovich officially step into the permanent role after a nationwide search by the City Council. With decades of public-sector experience and a commitment to Sonoma's long-term priorities, she would oversee a nearly $45 million budget, pending council approval of her contract at the Sept. 2 meeting.

• prep-football-preview-sonoma-valley-embracing-new-challenges-after-consecutive-league-titles (fresnobee.com) — Sonoma Valley High's football team is moving up to the tougher REC-Bay league after back-to-back undefeated conference titles, and local fans can expect a young but physically strong squad in the trenches. New coaches, including NFL alum Tony Moll, join returning standouts like linemen Jacob Collins and Bryson Mettler as the Dragons prepare for a challenging opener at Sacramento and a full fall schedule.

• Sonoma County advances rules to ease crop swaps for vineyards, orchards (pressdemocrat.com) — Sonoma County supervisors just backed rule changes that make it easier for vineyard and orchard owners to temporarily swap crops without triggering costly new permits, aiming to help during the wine industry downturn. The revisions to the long-debated VESCO rules still need a final vote in September but have drawn support from farm groups and little opposition from environmental advocates.
