• A 55-Year-Old Walnut Creek Bar Says It May Be Forced Out Bay Area Telegraph (bayareatelegraph.com) — A beloved downtown Walnut Creek fixture, Dan's Irish Sports Bar on Civic Drive, is facing an uncertain future amid a lease dispute, and its owner has filed civil litigation. While no closing date is set, he's actively searching for another Walnut Creek location to keep the staff and community together. Residents may see this 55-year institution move or eventually shut its doors.
   

• California Symphony opens 40th season with 'American Connections,' new composer-in-residence (localnewsmatters.org) — This weekend, the California Symphony opens its 40th season at Walnut Creek's Lesher Center with "American Connections," featuring the Northern California premiere of Jennifer Higdon's new Cello Concerto. Concerts run Sept. 26–27 at Hofmann Theatre and also introduce new composer-in-residence Paul Novak, whose three-year post is based with the orchestra here. Tickets range from $50 to $110 for this U.S. Semiquincentennial-themed program.
   

• 'My actions were the ultimate hypocrisy': Danville financial adviser gets 9-year prison term for decades-long Ponzi scheme (pleasantonweekly.com) — A long-running Ponzi scheme by Danville adviser Edwin Lickiss has led to a nine-year federal prison sentence and numerous civil suits, including one from a victim who handed him a $110,000 check at a Walnut Creek Safeway. Contra Costa County court records show decades of fraud allegations, with more local investors still pursuing millions in damages tied to underperforming or fictitious investments.
