News About Golden - September 19, 2026 (goldentoday.com) — Golden residents should know that Stage 1 fire restrictions were lifted at 7 a.m. on September 18 in coordination with Jefferson County, easing local outdoor activity rules. Also in the news, a Golden youth detention center is under scrutiny over racist messages by suspended leaders, and Colorado School of Mines earned a top-100 national ranking from Forbes.

Colorado School of Mines Offering guaranteed admission for qualifying Colorado High School Graduates (denver7.com) — Families in Golden should know Colorado School of Mines is rolling out a guaranteed admission program for qualifying Colorado high school graduates starting in fall 2027. The Mines Golden Guarantee is open to academically eligible residents statewide, with applications due by November 1, aiming to keep top engineering and applied science talent studying right here in Golden.
   

3. Icelantic moves out of downtown Golden (businessden.com subscription) — Icelantic Skis has closed its longtime downtown Golden storefront and moved all operations to a new main lodge near the 6th Avenue and I‑70 interchange, where locals can now demo, buy, and tune skis in one spot. Leaders say the new location better fits how customers actually shop, after years of using the Washington Avenue shop mainly for brand visibility.
   

4. Golden Gate Canyon State Park Becomes Colorado's First Urban Dark Sky Park (unofficialnetworks.com) — Golden-area residents now have Colorado's first Urban Night Sky Place just up the road at Golden Gate Canyon State Park, recognized for cutting light pollution and protecting nighttime conditions. The park swapped or retrofitted 96 light fixtures, expanded dark-sky education, and worked with partners including Jefferson County and the City of Golden to secure the DarkSky International designation.
