Golden closes section of Tucker Gulch Trail because of bear activity (denver7.com) — A key stretch of Golden's Tucker Gulch Trail between 1st and 7th streets is temporarily closed after repeated bear activity, including a sow and two cubs frequenting the area. Wildlife officials and Golden police urge residents to give bears space, secure trash and feeders, and stay alert as drought and hyperphagia drive more bears into town.
   

2. A Merchandising Behemoth in Golden (goldentoday.com) — A look back at Montgomery Ward's former catalog store on 13th Street shows how a national retailer once reshaped downtown Golden's shopping scene and later left behind contamination issues. The piece traces the building's evolution from bustling store to polluted dry cleaner site, through GURA-funded cleanup, to today's mixed-use development locals know at 13th and Jackson.
   

3. Commissioners vote on STR regulations (themtnear.com) — Golden is partnering with Gilpin County to provide $51,000 over three years toward a wildfire mitigation grant that will fund a regional forest and mitigation program manager. County commissioners also tightened short-term rental rules, advanced the 2027 budget, and backed additional forest health projects, all of which shape how nearby mountain communities prepare for fire risk and manage tourism impacts.
   

4. D'Evelyn softball celebrates Senior Day with another dominating victory in 4A/3A Jeffco (coloradopreps.com) — Golden's softball team will host Bear Creek on Monday as 4A/3A Jeffco league play continues, following D'Evelyn's dominant Senior Day win that kept them unbeaten in conference. With Golden sitting at 6-9 overall, the matchup offers a chance to shake up league standings and give home fans a closer look at how the Demons stack up against a common rival.
   

5. Greeley to adopt wastewater policy for breweries meant to reduce costs (denvergazette.com) — Golden's brewing scene gets a shout-out as Greeley rolls out a new wastewater billing policy that could save breweries 10% to 15% on their sewer costs. While Golden hasn't adopted anything similar yet, its public works director is watching the idea, which could eventually influence how Golden's many breweries are billed for water and wastewater.
