Restaurant Week Returning To Newtown With A New Twist (patch.com) — Newtown residents can look forward to an expanded Restaurant and Business Appreciation Week this October, spotlighting both local eateries and other small businesses. A new Sip & Savor kickoff at the Newtown Community Center will feature tastings and friendly competition, while diners during Restaurant Week will be guided via QR codes to the town's online Business Directory to discover more Newtown businesses.
   

2. AI Cameras Coming To Newtown School Buses; Fines To Follow (patch.com) — Drivers in Newtown will soon be monitored by AI-powered stop-arm cameras on school buses, with a 30-day warning period starting Sept. 15 before $250 fines begin Oct. 19. The program covers the town's entire bus fleet and aims to protect local students as they travel to and from school.
   

3. Weapons Detection System To Debut At Newtown High Football Game (patch.com) — Newtown High School will require everyone attending Thursday's home football game to pass through a new weapons detection system, the first step before using it on regular school days. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and Newtown staff and security will run the equipment, with police asking local spectators for patience as they roll out this added safety measure.
   

4. Soldier Leaves Jordan Without the Stray Dog Who Helped Him Survive Deployment (greatergood.com) — A Newtown soldier's bond with a stray dog at a remote Jordan outpost has turned into a new chapter back home in town. After months of coordination with rescue groups, Sadie the dog has joined the Ferris family in Newtown, where she's adjusting to backyard life, a new canine sibling, and the quieter rhythms far from deployment.
