Norwich City Plan Commission To Hear Shelter, Charter School Proposals (patch.com) — Norwich's Commission on the City Plan will decide Sept. 15 on a proposed seasonal overnight shelter on Broadway and a plan to turn a Laurel Hill Avenue storage building into classrooms for Integrated Day Charter School. The hybrid meeting at 100 Broadway also includes action on a Dunkin' Donuts bond, giving residents several chances to weigh in on neighborhood-changing projects.

Stars & Stripes: The American Flag from 9/11 to 250 - Original Photographs & Artwork Robert Carley (news12.com) — Norwich residents can visit the Slater Museum at Norwich Free Academy to see Robert Carley's powerful photographs and artwork capturing American flag tributes created after 9/11, on view through December 5. The exhibit, highlighted by museum director Dayne Rugh, preserves how everyday people expressed patriotism when flags sold out and homemade tributes filled communities nationwide.

Folks forced out by apartment fire in Norwich (wfsb.com) — An early-morning fire at 2 Central Ave. in Norwich forced residents of a second-floor apartment to evacuate, while those on the third floor were able to return home. Firefighters quickly knocked down flames in the first-floor Mikasa Financial Services office, and no injuries were reported as the fire marshal investigates the cause.

Hartford HealthCare, Backus Hospital launch state's first Mobile Integrated Health program (hartfordbusiness.com subscription) — Backus Hospital in Norwich and Hartford HealthCare have launched Connecticut's first state-designated Mobile Integrated Health program, sending specially trained paramedics into homes across 10 rural eastern communities. The initiative aims to support patients after hospital discharge, prevent avoidable ER visits, and connect residents with medical and community resources when issues like heart failure symptoms or safety concerns arise.

Popular Norwich Bar And Grill Closes Permanently (patch.com) — Fat Cat Grill & Bar on West Main Street in Norwich is closing permanently after 15 years, ending a local dining tradition that grew out of the longtime Olympic Pizza. Owners confirmed on Facebook they will not reopen after a planned renovation pause, disappointing many newer and longtime Norwich customers who praised the food and atmosphere.
