• Southington Plans New Street Parking Restrictions Near High School (patch.com) — Southington officials are preparing new on-street parking restrictions around Southington High School once a major parking and athletics upgrade is finished. Streets including Mandel Drive, February Drive, Pleasant Street, Annelise Avenue and Darling Street are expected to see tighter rules, following Planning and Zoning Commission approval of expanded parking, new tennis courts and athletic lighting at the high school campus. 
• Don't Use Fire To Battle Hornets, Weeds: Southington FD (patch.com) — Southington firefighters are warning residents to stop using torches to burn weeds or hornet nests after a recent spike in structure fires, including one where a homeowner was called "extremely lucky." They urge you to hire professionals instead and to call 911 immediately at any sign of smoke or fire, rather than trying to handle it yourself.
• Is Connecticut Using Technology to Block the 2A? (blogspot.com) — A Southington gun shop's big Customer Appreciation Day was largely derailed when Connecticut's background-check computer system went down, stopping firearm sales for hours. The outage, and repeated system problems, have some gun-rights advocates questioning whether the state's process is unfairly hindering purchases and complicating checks for people with common names.
