• Former Funeral Director Accused Of Ripping Off Clients Agrees To Plea, Will Serve 7-Plus Years (patch.com) — A former Vernon funeral director has agreed to a plea deal that will send him to prison for more than seven years after an investigation into fraudulent pre-paid funeral contracts. Vernon police say dozens of local families were affected through Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, with losses allegedly funding extensive gambling and personal spending, and the case drawing more than 170 potential victim statements.
