• Vernon proposes $244 million school plan to replace, consolidate aging buildings (ctpost.com) — Vernon officials are weighing a $244 million school facilities plan that would replace Maple Street and Northeast schools with a new building, upgrade Rockville High's HVAC, and later rebuild Lake Street School and improve Vernon Center Middle School. With the town's share estimated at $52 million and a future referendum likely, residents will soon decide how to modernize aging, non-ADA-compliant buildings for local students.
   

• Vernon Establishment Featured On New Connecticut Haunted Trail Map (patch.com) — A Vernon shop, The Boho Experience, has been named to Connecticut's new Haunted History Trail, putting the town on a spooky statewide tourism map. The boutique offers handmade goods plus events like drum circles, intuitive meditation, Reiki, and workshops, giving Vernon residents and visitors a new reason to explore local metaphysical offerings this fall.
   

• Former Funeral Director Accused Of Ripping Off Clients Agrees To Plea, Will Serve 7-Plus Years (patch.com) — A former Vernon funeral director has agreed to a plea deal that will send him to prison for more than seven years after an investigation into fraudulent pre-paid funeral contracts. Vernon police say dozens of local families were affected through Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, with losses allegedly funding extensive gambling and personal spending, and the case drawing more than 170 potential victim statements.
