Investigators say the deputy improperly moved the victim into a cell with the attacker, was later fired, and now faces a felony battery-by-inmate charge with an arraignment set for October 1.

Panama City enters contract negotiations with new clerk-treasurer candidate (mypanhandle.com) — Panama City officials are moving forward with contract negotiations to hire Leslie Glaze as the city's new clerk-treasurer, a role that could shift to comptroller if November charter changes pass. BCSO discusses the arrest of two correction officers in series of Walmart thefts (wkrg.com) — Two state correctional officers are accused of repeatedly stealing trading cards and Lego sets from Walmarts in Callaway, Panama City, and Lynn Haven, with Bay County investigators using camera systems to track their vehicle. Authorities say the suspects admitted to multiple trips targeting local stores, and deputies expect to recover more stolen merchandise as the investigation continues.
