1. 7 Injured After Breeze Bus Crashes Into State College Of Florida Sign: Sheriff (patch.com) — A Breeze bus crash near the State College of Florida's Venice campus in south Sarasota County sent the vehicle into a monument sign and left seven people injured. Several victims were taken to Wellen Park Emergency and Sarasota Memorial Hospital's Venice campus, while others were treated or evaluated at the scene. Authorities have not released additional details about the cause of the collision.
   

2. Man, 19, Arrested In Stabbing That Seriously Injured Victim In Sarasota: Sheriff (patch.com) — A late-night stabbing at a home on Lahaina Drive in Sarasota left a man with life-threatening injuries and in need of emergency surgery at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Deputies say the 19-year-old suspect barricaded himself before being subdued with pepper-ball rounds and a K9 unit, and he now faces an attempted second-degree murder charge while held at the Sarasota County jail. Investigators have not disclosed what sparked the attack.
   

3. Saving Sarasota County's historic swing bridge could cost less (bradenton.com) — Sarasota County leaders are weighing whether to rehabilitate or replace the historic Blackburn Point Swing Bridge in Osprey, with a new expert report suggesting restoration could cost far less than a new span. Preservation advocates argue the century‑old, single‑lane bridge, one of the last of its kind in Florida, can be safely repaired for roughly $17–$27 million versus the county's $65–$70 million replacement estimate.
   

4. Sarasota County boating safety: Leaders push for slow-speed zone at South Lido (fox13news.com) — Sarasota County leaders are seeking state approval for a new slow-speed, minimum-wake boating zone near Ted Sperling Park at South Lido Beach to curb reckless boating and jet ski dangers. The proposal follows a fatal 2025 crash, and if state regulators agree, county commissioners will hold public hearings before adopting any final safety rules.
   

5. Johnson Singer Foundation Awards $5,000 Grant to New Sarasota Arts Nonprofit (srqmagazine.com) — A new Sarasota-based arts nonprofit, Argument of Time, has secured a $5,000 Johnson Singer Foundation grant to fund a five-day residency in Sarasota from October 9–13, 2026. Six artists will collaborate locally on "Visit to an Extinct City," expanding poet Teresa Carson's Ostia Antica-inspired project into a multidisciplinary performance.
