Acclaimed Sarasota restaurant abruptly closes after three years (heraldtribune.com) — Sarasota diners are losing Kolucan Mexican Bar and Grill in Gulf Gate, which abruptly closed just before its third anniversary at 6644 Gateway Avenue. Known for upscale Mexican cuisine and a striking corner location, the restaurant had earned acclaim as one of Sarasota's best new spots, while partner concept Reyna's Taqueria continues operating at Sarasota Commons on Beneva Road.
   

2. Sarasota transportation planner elected to trade association leadership role (yourobserver.com) — Sarasota's chief transportation planner, Corinne Arriaga, has been elected vice president of membership for the Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association, raising the city's profile in statewide planning circles. Her new role will help shape professional development and policy conversations that influence how communities across Florida, including Sarasota, plan for growth, sustainability, and transportation.
   

3. AFA Launches National Tour of Judy Glickman Lauder Photography Collection (thenationalherald.com) — Sarasota art lovers can look forward to a major photography exhibition, "Presence: The Photography Collection of Judy Glickman Lauder," arriving at the Sarasota Art Museum from October 18, 2026, through April 4, 2027. Featuring more than 100 works by iconic photographers like Diane Arbus, Gordon Parks, and Dorothea Lange, the traveling show explores powerful images of human experience and history.
   

4. Marky Hernandez scores late equalizer in Spokane Velocity's 1-1 draw with Sarasota Paradise (spokesman.com) — Sarasota soccer fans saw local club Sarasota Paradise draw 1-1 with Spokane Velocity at Premier Sports Campus after conceding a stoppage-time equalizer. Paradise defended fiercely, with keeper Alexander Sutton making seven saves and the back line recording 31 clearances, but a late rebound goal denied them a valuable home win in USL League One play.
