Motorcyclist Dies After Crash Near Sarasota Traffic Circle: Police (patch.com) — A Venice motorcyclist died after a three-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon near the Gulfstream Avenue and Bayfront Drive traffic circle in Sarasota, according to police. Investigators say he struck a vehicle while attempting to pass, then hit a pole, and later died at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Sarasota police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact their traffic homicide investigator.
   

2. Barancik Foundation Awards More Than $8.7 Million in Grants (sarasotamagazine.com) — New grant awards are sending more than $8.7 million into Sarasota County schools, nonprofits, and arts groups, including $1.8 million for Sarasota County Schools and support for mental health services at local elementary programs. From Children First and Second Heart Homes to Sarasota Orchestra and Embracing Our Differences, many Sarasota-based organizations are receiving fresh funding to expand education, cultural offerings, and social services.
   

3. Sarasota County's $18M Stickney Point purchase hits snag (businessobserverfl.com) — Sarasota County's $18.1 million plan to buy the Stickney Point Boatyard property has hit title problems involving condo utility easements and a federal canal easement on Little Sarasota Bay. County attorneys have issued a default notice to the seller but are still negotiating fixes, which could affect future public access plans like boat slips, kayak launches, and picnic areas at this key waterfront site.
   

4. Rodent droppings temporarily close Sarasota County restaurant (bradenton.com) — Restaurant inspections across Sarasota County found one Nokomis spot temporarily closed over rodent droppings and several Sarasota eateries cited for high-priority violations before passing follow-ups. You can see which Sarasota restaurants earned perfect scores, which needed callbacks, and what common food-safety problems inspectors are flagging so you can make more informed dining choices locally.
   

5. Jefferson Fit Brings Back Free Fit Day on October 4 (srqmagazine.com) — Sarasota residents can join a free morning of workouts and wellness at Jefferson Fit in downtown Sarasota on Sunday, October 4, from 7–10 a.m. The event features a 5K run/walk, outdoor bootcamp, additional group fitness sessions, and access to recovery amenities, plus coffee from Sarasota Sips and refreshments from Sprouts Farmers Market.
