1. CNN, HBO Outage Hits East Coast: Report (patch.com) — Atlanta-based CNN reports that a technical issue at Warner Bros. Discovery briefly knocked CNN, HBO and related channels off the air across parts of the East Coast around midday Monday. Viewers saw frozen, glitching screens, with most problems affecting CNN's live channel, though streaming and app users also reported issues. Service was largely restored by about 1 p.m., according to outage data and viewer reports.
   

2. Fulton property owners begin receiving tax bills in the mail (fultonneighbor.com) — Atlanta homeowners are now receiving 2026 property tax bills marked "temporary," but those City of Atlanta taxes are still due by September 30, with Fulton County portions due October 15. Residents can pay online, by phone, in person, or by mail to the Pryor Street SW office in downtown Atlanta, and should act promptly to avoid interest and escalating penalties.
   

3. Retrial begins for ex-officer accused of sexually assaulting women while on duty (wsbtv.com) — A high-profile retrial is underway at the Fulton County Courthouse in downtown Atlanta for former East Point police officer Richard Gooddine, accused of sexually assaulting multiple women while on duty. Jury selection resumed Tuesday, with prosecutors and defense attorneys probing whether potential jurors can handle disturbing testimony and withstand pressure in deliberations after a 2022 trial ended in a partial mistrial.
   

4. In heartbreaking letter, family of Atlanta Beltline stabbing suspect says they wanted him off streets, feared tragedy (11alive.com) — An Atlanta family is grappling with grief after a deadly stabbing on the BeltLine and the suspect's relatives released a public letter saying they'd long begged courts for stronger mental-health interventions. They're now urging Georgia lawmakers and Atlanta leaders to create a "Family-Led Structured Decision-Making Act" to help families restrict weapons access and enforce treatment before crises occur.
   

5. Detroit Is Paying Students to Go to School. Could Atlanta Try It Too? (hotspotatl.com) — Atlanta Public Schools is wrestling with high chronic absenteeism and looking at Detroit's experiment of paying students for perfect attendance as one possible tool. The piece explains APS's current efforts, Detroit's early results, and how a local cash-incentive pilot might work alongside transportation, housing, and counseling support rather than replace them.
