1. 2027 Master Gardener Extension Volunteer Training Fridays Jan. 15 to March 26 in Cartersville, GA (uga.edu) — Cartersville residents interested in gardening can apply now for the 2027 Bartow Master Gardener Extension Volunteer training, with Friday classes hosted at the Bartow Extension office in town. Applications, including three references, must be printed, signed, and submitted by October 26, with interviews and background checks completed by November 20 for those hoping to join this community-focused program.
   

2. Notice of Public Meeting on Intent to Construct the Brandon (daily-tribune.com) — A new 230 kV Brandon Farm–Pittman Lake transmission line is planned through Bartow and Paulding counties, with a public open house set for Oct. 22 at the Cartersville-Bartow Chamber on West Main Street. Cartersville-area property owners could be affected by new easements, tree clearing, and construction beginning in 2027, so residents are encouraged to review the route and ask questions.
   

3. Two Children Removed From Cartersville Home After Deputies Find Unsanitary Living Conditions (wbhfradio.org) — Two children were removed from a Cartersville home on Rubie Lane after deputies and DFCS reported severe filth, limited food, and nonfunctional facilities inside the residence. Authorities also seized several puppies from unsanitary conditions, and the children's guardian was arrested on second-degree cruelty to children charges while the case proceeds through the courts.
   

4. Data center filing draws large Kingston council crowd (daily-tribune.com) — A major data center proposal just outside Kingston has drawn a packed city council meeting, with residents urging officials to slow down any decisions. A longtime Cartersville resident joined neighbors in raising concerns about environmental impacts, power and water issues, and how much tax revenue would truly reach Kingston. City leaders took comments under advisement but made no decisions yet.
   

5. Baltimore art museum named among best in South (thedailyrecord.com) — Cartersville's Booth Western Art Museum has been singled out by Southern Living as one of the South's top art museums, putting the city alongside major cultural destinations across the region. The list highlights museums where visitors can see world-famous works and distinctive Southern art, giving Cartersville residents another reason to be proud of their hometown institution.
