• Lakeland City Council Appoints Justice Jones as Interim Chief of Police * (laniercountynewsonline.com) — Lakeland’s city council has named longtime local officer Justice Jones as interim chief of police, putting him in charge of the Lakeland Police Department after decades of service in South Georgia law enforcement. Jones is credited with restoring key state reporting compliance, modernizing records and evidence procedures, and pushing community-focused policing, and he’s pledging to keep an open-door relationship with Lakeland residents as he leads the department.
   

• High-Speed Chase Through Lanier County Ends in Drug Arrest, Major Narcotics Seizure * (laniercountynewsonline.com) — A high-speed chase that began Wednesday evening in Lanier County and was reported from Lakeland ended with the arrest of a suspected drug trafficker and a sizable narcotics seizure. Deputies and Georgia State Patrol officers pursued the driver through Oak Ridge, Nass Hendley and River Road neighborhoods before stopping the vehicle, and investigators say more details on charges and the suspect’s identity will follow.
