📰 News we're reading

1. 1st property tax increase in 10 years planned for metro Atlanta city (wsbtv.com) — Roswell leaders are proposing the first property tax increase in about a decade, raising the millage rate from 4.949 to 7.732 mills to fund infrastructure, city facilities, and public safety. Residents can still weigh in at two upcoming evening hearings before a formal council vote on Sept. 28, making now a key time to understand and discuss the change.

2. Roswell Arts Festival returns for 60th celebration (appenmedia.com) — Roswell's 60th annual Arts Festival takes over City Hall this weekend, Sept. 19-20, with free admission, parking, and full days of art, food trucks, and live entertainment. Proceeds continue to fund local parks projects, including improvements at Liberty Square Park, East Roswell Dog Park, and the Crabapple Center's performing arts studio, keeping the long-running festival closely tied to everyday community life.

3. West Nile virus death confirmed in Georgia, health department says (atlantanewsfirst.com) — Georgia has recorded a West Nile virus death this year, and state health officials say more cases are likely as mosquito season continues through October. Recent positive mosquito tests include traps at two Roswell parks, so local residents—especially seniors and those with health conditions—should be extra vigilant about avoiding bites and following DPH prevention tips.

4. FDA recalls hand soaps sold in Georgia over bacteria risk (fox5atlanta.com) — Hand soaps distributed from Roswell and sold at regional grocery chains have been recalled after FDA testing found possible contamination with Pseudomonas and Serratia bacteria that can cause infections. Several Intercon and Laura Lynn branded soaps sold in Georgia are affected, so Roswell residents should check their bathrooms and discard any matching products on the FDA's recall list.

5. A look at the top 10 Georgia high school football games for Week 5 (ajc.com) — Roswell High's football team hosts Archer at Ray Manus Stadium this Friday at 7:30 p.m., bringing a 2-1 record and a No. 7 Class 6A ranking into a key Week 5 matchup. The Hornets will lean on dual-threat quarterback Matt Schletty and Florida State-committed safety Jaxon Holly as they face an undefeated Archer squad off four dominant wins.
