• Two Aurora Residents Hospitalized With West Nile Virus (foxvalleymagazine.com) — Two Aurora residents have been hospitalized with severe, neuroinvasive West Nile virus, marking Kane County's first human cases of the 2026 mosquito season. Health officials urge Aurora residents, especially older adults and those with weakened immune systems, to stay vigilant about mosquito bite prevention as surveillance continues and past years' case numbers show the virus remains a recurring local risk.
   

• Dozens of Naperville-area students named National Merit Scholar semifinalists (nctv17.org) — Aurora's Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy boasts 22 students named National Merit Scholar semifinalists, joining more than 100 recognized teens from the broader Naperville area. The honor places these Aurora scholars among the top 1% of seniors nationwide, and they'll now compete for finalist status by submitting detailed applications highlighting academics, leadership, and community involvement.
   

• Cheap Trick Guitarist Rick Nielsen Leaves the Stage for Apparent Medical Issue (therockrevival.com) — Fans at Aurora's RiverEdge Park saw Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen repeatedly leave the stage Thursday night after apparent breathing problems shortened the concert and forced song cuts. The 77-year-old guitarist twice exited, later returning to sit and finish portions of the show and join the final bow, while the band and his son Daxx worked to keep the performance going.
