3 Arrested After Underage Party, Fireworks May Have Sparked Fire: Authorities

MCHENRY, IL — Three people were arrested after police said an underage drinking party at a McHenry home may have led to a fireworks-related fire Friday night.
Among the three people arrested was Hedgar Gomez-Lopez, 19, who lived at the home where the fire occurred in McHenry and who is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, underage alcohol consumption and possessing fireworks after allegedly hosting the party, the Lake & McHenry County Scanner. Authorities also arrested one person on DUI charges and a juvenile on an obstruction charge.
Firefighters were dispatched at 10:21 p.m. Friday to the 5000 block of Pyndale Drive for the fire, according to a news release from the McHenry Township Fire Protection District.

Everyone inside the home had safely evacuated before firefighters arrived. One resident was evaluated at the scene and transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a news release.
The home sustained significant damage and was deemed uninhabitable, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the McHenry Township Fire Protection District and the McHenry Police Department.
